Mali and Benin draw

Mali and Benin drew nil-nil today in a match with few chances for either side. Dabo was given a start up front with Freddie Kanouté. The first half was very hard to see on a weak video stream from so it was hard to really see what was going on. Kanouté and Seydou Keïta did each have good chances to score though while Benin controlled more of the play. In the 2nd half (when the pitch wasn't so bright and thus was easier to see), Benin again had a few good crosses that could not be finished by their strikers. Seydou Keïta again had a good chance for Mali but headed straight into the keeper's hands from the corner. Dabo was eventually replaced by midfielder Djibril Sidibé. The match would finish as it started, at 0-0.

Dabo never really had much of chance to get involved in the play, as he rarely recieved the ball where he is most dangerous, in the box. With this draw and Togo beating Sierra Leone, Mali will pretty much need to win both of their remaining matches to qualify for ACN 2008. They sit 3 points behind 1st place Togo, 1 point above Benin, and 5 points above last-placed Sierra Leone, who they play on June 16th.
